My name is Maryam and I am of Assyrian origin, born in Iraq and lived there for the first few years of my life. As a child, we had to move to Switzerland and this is when a lot of things changed in my life! Within a short period of time and had to adapt to a new environment, lifestyle, language and much more. Let’s say it was a challenging start for a 9-year old girl that was going through big changes. But here I am!

Why is this important?

I know how hard it can be to grow up in two completely different cultures without fully belonging to one or the other. And no one truly understanding you. Let me tell you that it does not have to be always like this!

Facing various challenges in my life has helped me become more resilient, goal-oriented and grateful for what I have. And this starts with taking responsibility for my life and staying true to myself. And seize every opportunity that comes my way.
